The Reason for Neglect

Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.  Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.  How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;
They will not be ashamed. When they speak with their enemies in the gate.  Psalm 127: 3-5

Okay, I realize that my poor blog has been neglected over the last month or so.  Business has been partially to blame, but so has one other reason.

We are expecting a baby! Yep, that’s right, baby #4 will be joining our family sometime this summer. This pregnancy has been the most difficult of them all. Lots of “morning sickness” though mine lasts all day long  and terrible insomnia which has kept me from working on my blog as well as doing many other things around the house.

I am looking forward to the nausea subsiding so I can get back to blogging.

Brown Belts

Every 2 months the kids have their Tae Kwon Do testing. This time it was for their brown belts. Here is a glimpse into their testing. A major part of the test is that all the kids do their form in unison. Grand Master Cho was so impressed with Elias’ form that he asked him to do it by himself. Elias became a little nervous and ended up moving faster than the music. Both kids have worked hard and earned their new belts.

A Tribute to Manu

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. – James 1:17

Manuel Smith Thorn (Manu) was a 7 pound, reddish brown, long haired, mini dachshund.

She came to us through my sister Jessy and she was a very spunky, fun, sometimes silly, cuddle dog who liked being right in the middle of everything.2696519041_33c7895ac2_m

We loved having her and are very sad that she is no longer with us.

We will have lots of good memories, like the kids chasing her around the house and then Manu turning around and chasing them. We remember her  stealing snacks from the baby, and sneaking toys out of the kids room. The kids just reminded me that Manu was very good at playing tug of war.  She loved napping with Joe and Jim (Joe’s dad) and often times slept under our covers by our feet.  The kids hope that on the new earth God will create a dog just like her.

These sad times should always make us set our eyes on Jesus and remind us what James said that we “do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (James 4:14). I am sure we will have some great conversations today about death, Jesus and living well.

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

Recollect that the Almighty, who gave the dog to be companion of our pleasure and our toils, hath invested him with a nature noble and incapable of deceit. – Sir Walter Scott

Tae Kwon Do

3014543218_d85d5d0bf5

A little over a year ago we enrolled our two oldest in Tae Kwon Do. We felt that it would be a good energy release for our son and a way for our daughter to gain confidence. More than that, we believe that our children (especially our son) should be able and willing to protect themselves and defend others (when and if that time comes). Both of the kids love going to TKD and yesterday received their dark blue belt. They have two more belts to go and then they will begin training for their black belt test. More than learning how to fight they learn about respect, integrity, perseverance, and having an indomitable spirit. All around this has been a wonderful aid in character development.
